Transport: Dana Air opens Lagos flights to Uyo
Sunday, January 17th 2010Dana Air starts flights between Lagos and Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, on 18 January. The service runs seven days a week, operating out of Lagos. The daily flight leaves Lagos in the morning and has a return service from Uyo in the afternoon. Uyo is in the south east of Nigeria, due east of Port Harcourt. Dana Air already operates 12 daily flights on the Lagos-Abuja route, four on the Lagos-Port Harcourt route and two to Kanu and Enugu.
Dana Air, a subsidiary of the Dan Group which was founded by the Hathiramani family and has interests in Nigeria’s motor industry, steel, electronics, paper, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastics, already has a 17 per cent share of the country’s airline market although it only started operations in this sector just over a year ago.
Akwa Ibom is Nigeria’s largest oil and gas producing state and its capital Uyo is the operational base of several multinational companies. The new international airport at Uyo opened in September 2009.
