The organisers felt that Lagos was a better venue both for participants coming from abroad, for security reasons and for Nigerian partnerships. One of the festival partners is Arik Airlines. There are 30 participating countries, including the United States, Senegal, England and Pakistan. In all there were 180 submissions and 63 films have been short-listed. There are four sections; features, shorts, animation and documentaries. Part of the emphasis this year will be on promoting young talent and two people will be selected at the end of one of the festival workshops for a training course in South Africa. Chioma Udeh, founder and the chief organiser of the festival, was born in Italy where her father served as a diplomat.
